Music has a special way of connecting to our emotions, memories, creativity, and personal experiences. A single song can instantly change our mood, bring back memories, motivate us, comfort us, or remind us of important moments in our lives. Music speaks to the heart in ways words sometimes cannot explain.

At The Lillie Mae Parson Performing Arts Center, we believe music is one of the most powerful forms of self-expression and healing. Through music, young people can discover confidence, creativity, emotional release, and inspiration. Whether it is singing, dancing, writing songs, performing, or simply listening to music that connects to their emotions, music allows youth to express themselves freely and creatively.

Different types of music can connect to different emotions and moments in life. Spiritual music can bring peace, hope, healing, and strength. Love songs can connect to emotions, growth, relationships, and self-worth. Rap music often tells stories of survival, motivation, confidence, and culture. Rock music can express passion, freedom, energy, and emotion. Every genre has the power to connect people through feelings, memories, and experiences.

Music also creates emotional memories that stay with us forever. For example, every time I hear All Star from Shrek, I instantly think about sitting down watching that movie with my children over and over again. No matter where I am, hearing that song immediately makes me smile and start singing along because it reminds me of joy, laughter, family, and special moments together. That is the power music has — it connects emotion and memory together in a way that stays with us for years.

Music also played an important role in my personal healing journey. During a difficult season in my life, music and writing became safe spaces for me emotionally and spiritually. One song that deeply inspired me was Power of a Woman by Ella Mai. Even though it is written as a love song, something about the beat, melody, and energy gave me strength and motivation. It reminded me that I could heal, rebuild, and continue growing stronger as a woman, mother, leader, and visionary.

Sometimes music gives us messages our spirit needs to hear. While others may hear one meaning in a song, our hearts may hear something completely different. For me, music became motivation to continue healing, keep believing in myself, and continue building my life and LMP with purpose and passion.

Creativity grows when people feel inspired, and music has always been one of the greatest sources of inspiration in the arts. Music influences dance, storytelling, fashion, writing, visual arts, theater, and culture. It encourages imagination, confidence, emotional connection, and creativity.

At LMP, we want youth to experience the beauty and healing power of the arts while discovering confidence, creativity, leadership, and purpose through music and self-expression. 💜🎭🎶
