Our International Vision Expanding Access to Performing Arts Around the World at the Lillie Mae Parson Performing Arts Center (LMP), we believe that every young person—regardless of where they live or their economic circumstances—deserves access to high-quality performing arts education.
The arts have the power to inspire confidence, develop leadership, strengthen communication skills, encourage creativity, and create opportunities that can transform lives. Our vision extends beyond borders, connecting young people through education, culture, and artistic expression.

LMP's international journey begins in The Gambia, West Africa, where we are working alongside local partners and schools to introduce performing arts education to students who may have limited access to structured arts programming.
The Gambia, West Africa, affectionately known as "The Smiling Coast of Africa." The Gambia is recognized for its warm hospitality, strong sense of community, and rich cultural traditions that have been passed down through generations. Families, elders, and neighbors play an important role in supporting one another, creating a culture where community, respect, and shared responsibility are deeply valued.
These values closely align with LMP's belief that young people thrive when they are surrounded by caring adults, positive mentors, and opportunities to learn, grow, and express themselves.
The Gambia allows us to build meaningful, community-centered performing arts programs that honor and celebrate local culture while expanding opportunities for creative expression. By working alongside local schools, educators, and community partners, we aim to help students develop confidence, leadership, communication skills, teamwork, and creativity through drama, public speaking, digital arts, production, and other performing arts experiences.
As we build these programs together, we seek to create an environment where students can preserve and celebrate their cultural heritage while gaining skills that prepare them for future educational, professional, and leadership opportunities. LMP believes that when communities and young people work together through the arts, creativity becomes a bridge that connects culture, inspires hope, and empowers the next generation.
