Sometimes life takes you places you never expected — and through those experiences, your purpose becomes clearer.
In April 2026, I traveled to The Gambia for what originally began as a personal healing journey. During my time there, I experienced more than just a different country — I experienced connection, culture, resilience, and community in a way that deeply impacted me.
While visiting different project sites and schools, I was introduced to Mama Africa for Gambia and the work they were doing within local communities. I saw firsthand the passion people had for helping youth and families despite limited resources.
What stood out to me most was the power of creativity, culture, and human connection. Even across continents, I realized that young people share many of the same needs:
A safe space to grow
Opportunities to express themselves
Mentorship and encouragement
Access to education and creativity
Hope for the future
That experience inspired something bigger than I originally imagined.
One week after returning home to Clearwater, we officially formalized a partnership between The Lillie Mae Parson Performing Arts Center and Mama Africa for Gambia to begin building international cultural exchange and performing arts opportunities for youth.
This partnership is about more than performances.
It is about:
Building global understanding
Creating opportunities for youth leadership
Connecting cultures through creativity
Expanding arts education internationally
Helping young people see possibilities beyond their environment
Through dance, music, storytelling, visual arts, and cultural exchange, we hope to create experiences that inspire confidence, healing, education, and connection for young people both in Florida and in The Gambia.
As the founder of LMP, this journey has reminded me that purpose can grow from unexpected places. Sometimes a personal journey becomes a community mission.
From Clearwater to The Gambia, this vision continues to grow one relationship, one student, and one opportunity at a time.
Because the arts do more than entertain — they connect the world.
